Large Dog Cages

If you have a large dog and you are looking to buy a new dog crate then you will want to consider one of the large dog cages. Dog cages come in several different sizes to suit the size and breed of your pet.

They can be used both outside and indoors, if you are going to be using the cage outside make sure you get one that is galvanised, this will prevent it from rusting. You will also want to consider whether or not you will be using the cage in your car for transporting your pet safely.

Some people may consider keeping a dog in a cage to be cruel, to us it may appear that we are locking them away and confining them. Dogs however see it as their own space, a place where they can feel comfortable and secure and view it much like they would a den in the wild.

Indoors large dog cages can be used as a place to keep your dog safe and secure when you have to leave your dog unsupervised. It can prevent your pet from soiling your house or damaging your furniture whilst you are out. When you take them out in the car it is a good way to make sure that they are safe and prevent them from moving around in the car potentially causing an accident.

Before you make your purchase there are some considerations to take into account. Metal cages are thought to be the best as they are strong and long lasting, you should also consider a metal tray for your crate rather than a plastic one which dogs can chew through. A plastic floor pan can also crack, age and eventually break due to the acid in the dogs urine braking down the plastic.

If you have a puppy you are better of getting a cage to suit them when they reach their full size. This will save you money and the need to buy another one when they get too big for their smaller home. Whilst he is a puppy you can partition off part of it to prevent him from being tempted to mess at one end and sleep at the other. Dogs by their nature do not like to do their business in their den.

The size of the cage you will need will depend on the breed of dog that you have, the larger breeds require a larger cage. Below is a suggested size guide to give you an idea of the minimum cage size that is required.
